Pushing Through the Wall

I think they possibly put crack into my latte this morning.  I was WIRED all morning.  Still didn’t do a whole lot, but I definitely had a frazzled crazy look in my eyes all morning.

Too bad that hyperactivity didn’t keep up for the gym.  I don’t know what happened, but I hit a wall.  I lifted at the beginning of my workout.

Workout

Upper body
Bench Press
Arnold’s
Bicep Curls
Tricep Kickbacks
Hammer Curls
Seated Rows on the machine (50lbs)
Tricep Dips on the machine (weight set at 60lbs)

I did at least 2 sets (sometimes 3) of each with 10 reps each.  I did 40lbs total for the bench press and 30lbs total for the other ones.

Lower Body
I used the Kinesis cable machine for the first time.  Pretty cool and I think I’ll use it more often.

Front lunges (2 sets each leg)
Squats (3 sets)
Leg Press (on the machine–130lbs)

Wow…I didn’t do a whole lot of lower body.  Hrmph.

Cardio
This is where the wall was hit.  Hard.  I started on the treadmill.  Did my 5 minutes at incline 8.0 and mph at 3.8 then did 5 minutes at 0 incline 5.3mph.  Then I went back to the incline and made it 3 minutes and 38 seconds and my hamstring on my bad leg started hurting.  I made it maybe 15 more seconds before I knew i must stop immediately.  GRR.

I thought about leaving, but I wouldn’t let myself, so I went over to the bike.  Rode at about 18mph.  I hit about 6 minutes and I thought about leaving, but no. I hit another wall at 13 minutes and thought about leaving, but i told myself that I could quit at 16 minutes because that would be 30 minutes total of cardio.  And then the next time I looked down it was over 19 minutes, so I just kept going until 26 minutes to get myself 40 minutes of cardio.  I feel like I totally accomplished something by talking myself through that and making it through the whole cardio time I had planned.

S-l-o-w-l-y made it back to work to happily find an email from HR saying we can leave at 3.  Gleee. I can get hair done and cupcakes made before I need to leave tonight to meet up with Missy via metro.

Lunch
I started with an arugula salad with 1 slice of chopped red onions, about 1T of chopped avocado, a few blueberries, 1/2 stalk of celery and about 6 grape tomatoes.  Topped it off with a little Ken’s Light Blue Cheese dressing.  The red onions were a bit strong with the already bitter arugula.  I probably could have done without those.

Then I had half an Ezekiel 4:9 sprouted wheat bun with 1T of natural PB and 1T of all natural plum jelly.  I had toasted the bun this morning (grrr, we don’t have a toaster at work!) and put the sandwich together.  I microwaved it for about 15 seconds before I ate it and that softened everything right back up.

And the standard Kozy Shack No sugar added tapioca (didn’t see a need for a photo).

Got another 19 minutes at work and then I am heading to the store for cupcake ingredients.  On the hunt at some of the blogs out there for a ‘healthy’ cupcake recipe.  I really should go pick up my pampered chef order but I don’t think I’ll have time to do that, bake, dye hair and get ready in time to meet Missy.  And when you are aiming to meet someone who is catching a metro train at a different station and get on it when it comes through your station, you probably shouldn’t be late. :) (i’m habitually late)

And no diet soda today.  Go me!

Short work week + no boss in the office=perfection

Ahhh, it is like today is Friday!  I love it when a holiday falls up against a weekend.  And my office is EMPTY today, so I can catch up on some of the busy work around here that I need to do and I can blogsurf a bit. I am hoping our HR department lets us out of here early too.  I am thinking about dying my hair and making some cupcakes for Fourth of July.  Ummm, not at the same time though. :)   And I have an awesome girls night out planned in the District with Missy tonight.  My mother isn’t making it into town until Saturday now. :(

On the way into work this morning, after realizing that I still forgot to pick up some GFI sugar-free coffee, I thought I could handle a little Fourth of July/it is the last day of the work week treat.  We have the cutest little drive-thru coffee shop near my house that I would much rather give my money to than that coffee giant that sounds a lot like marducks.

I got a small non fat latte with a squirt of sugar free caramel.  Yum yum.  Once I got into work, I poured about half of it over ice and that is what I am enjoying now.  I probably will get to the other half later today.  After all the caffeine I had yesterday I should probably watch my intake today.

Breakfast
For breakfast this morning I stole the idea from Meals from the Girl in the Little Black Dress.  I made overnight oats.  1/2cup of oats mixed with 1/2cup of soy milk and 2T of water.  I let it soak overnight and then this morning I mixed in 1/2 a cut up banana, 1T of flax seed, 2T of Fage and some cinnamon.  I put in some blueberries but I ended up not eating them.  They just didn’t mix well with the creamy consistency of everything else.  It was very very yummy and is something I definitely will be having a lot.

Am Snack
Basically the same, kefir and a peach.  Hopefully this peach will be better than the one I had earlier this week.  It felt a little softer, so there is hope.

I am planning on heading to the gym over lunch.  My hand has stopped openly bleeding, so I think it is okay if I do some cardio.  Probably treadmill so I don’t have to use my hands.  I really want to lift this afternoon…I am trying to decide if I think that is the wisest thing or not.  Maybe I could try and see if it hurts/opens the wound…

And for a little giggle, I leave you with:

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
