Nothing is better than running in a light rain on a summer morning

I want to start out by saying I did make it through yesterday without a sip of alcohol.  I was a bit proud of myself.  This was definitely the first Fourth that I have been alcohol-free since I was 21…potentially longer than that.  I said that to my mom last night and she laughed and said she didn’t think she had had an alcohol-free July Fourth since she was probably 18 (unless pregnant).  I guess that made it historic. :)

July Fourth was an interesting day. The rain started around 3 and didn’t really stop. We went down to Arlington National Cemetery and it poured off and on for the 2 hours we sat down there for. But we had a break of the rain for about 45 minutes so that we were able to eat.We took down a bunch of different finger food/tapas. We had sushi, cheese and bread (the bread was a let down though), shrimp that were incredible, olives, cherries, trail mix and gazpacho. I have no idea how much of eat I actually ate. At least 4 shrimp, quite a few cherries and olives. About 3 sushi rolls and maybe ¼ cup of gazpacho. And the cheese (especially the Maytag) was something I just couldn’t stop snacking on.

Except for the fog/rain/clouds, the fireworks were gorgeous over the Washington Monument.  Then we started the forever long trip home. It was about 11:30 when we got home and I was a little hungry after all the walking we had done post-fireworks and I had a small glass of kefir and a cup of blueberries, 1 sheet of graham crackers and about 1/2T of flax seed because I hadn’t had any yesterday.

I woke up this morning and decided to go for a walk/jog. It rained the whole time but it was still warm. I love running in a light rain, especially when it is early in the morning and there aren’t people out yet. It just is serene and makes me really appreciate being outdoors. I walked 5 minutes and then ran 5 minutes, and so on. My knee did okay but it is still really weak and I think my hips are a bit misaligned. I am hyper extending my bad knee by a lot. I need to talk to my doctor next time I see about how I can fix this. I felt really good while I was out there and kept just taking turns and running around. I was only planning on running for 40 minutes but it ended up being a full hour. I guess that makes up a little bit for skipping working out yesterday.

After showered I made myself a smoothie with soy milk, ice, fage, flax seed, about ¼ cup of liquid egg white substitute (it is safe to consume without cooking) blueberries and 1 banana. It was really good!

I also had a LifeStream Organic Whole Grain Waffle (maple cinnamon) with 1T of my natural peanut butter.

After about an hour I decided I need some caffeine, so I am sipping on this while typing this:

Soy milk, Dunken Donuts French Vanilla Coffee, ice, and 1 splenda packet. I brewed it and then put the coffee in the freezer for about 40 minutes to cool down.

We are heading out to the Congressional National Golf Tournament. Hopefully the rain will stop for the rest of the day.

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
