Sorry about the late night post. We actually just got home. We wanted to milk the most out of our trip and stayed at the beach as late as possible. It was a wonderful weekend. Weather was perfect and there was tons of family (from Justin’s side) around. We made sure to enjoy all waking moments.
I got out of work around 1:00 on Friday. I had an odd lunch that was basically ‘clean out the fridge before a weekend away lunch’. I ate my sandwich (spinach, hummus, zucchini and sprouts.) and a salad (spinach, bean sprouts, quinoa, edamame) before I left. I ate one of my Adora’s on the ride and had some trail mix once we got there (Kashi Go Lean Crunch, dried edamame, dried fruit and chocolate chips.) Got to the beach around 4:30 and made myself go to the gym right when I got there because if I had sat down and had a drink, I am SURE I wouldn’t have gone. I did the elliptical for 40 minutes (set to random) and did a little upper body lifting (bis, tris and pec flies). That night for dinner was simply chicken, fresh fruit, a salad and bread. I ate quite a bit of bread and had a couple glasses of wine with dinner. That night, my little sister in law, Kristen, and I went out to a bar in Bethany called Mango’s where a friend from college, Reed, was playing guitar. That was fun and we met up with some other friends of mine. I had a hefeweizen there and there were Miller Light girls giving out free beers, so I had one of those. When I got back to the beach house, Justin had arrived so we stayed up and talked for awhile. I had a few Bull’s Eye’s while we hung out (these were my nemesis of the weekend!)
Saturday
Saturday morning we woke up and ate one of the muffins I brought to the beach and then went for a hard ride. Went about 16 miles in 55 minutes. Felt good to get out and ride hard. When we got back I had a banana cut in half with about 1T of peanut butter smeared on it. I showered and put on my bathing suit. I took a Ziploc bag with me that had some multi grain oats, some blueberries, cinnamon, flax seed, raisins and a bunch of random cereals that were at the house (Crispix, Chex, Honey Bunches of Oats) to the beach. I munched on that while I laid out on the boat sunning. I had a Coors Light also while I was laying out on the boat. Justin and I went kayaking that afternoon for about a mile or so. Once we got back to the house around 5PM, I had a Clif Bar.
Saturday night’s dinner was UNREAL. It was a clam bake, which essentially is a HUGE pot layered with different types of food. There were 12 adults and 3 kids eating. There were big clams that Justin and Dan (younger brother-in-law) got while we were out that day at the bottom and a bunch of (store-bought) seaweed. Then it is layered with chicken and fish (cod), potatoes (sweet and white), corn, lobster and about 200 little neck clams. There was homemade guacamole and chips and homemade mini crab cakes. I am a crab cake snob and these were perfection!!!! I also ate nearly my body weight in the guacamole.
Here are a few photos I snapped during the feast:
about 1/20th of the clams that we had (dipped into melted butter.)
Justin and I split a lobster. I am not a real fan of lobster. I am much more partial to blue crabs.
Here is a photo of the sunset from the balcony of the house
And Justin and I out on the deck
And I had maybe 4 or 5 of these over the course of about 6 hours.
And here is my ‘main course’ plate. There is half a sweet potato, a bit of cod (in the upper right), some sauteed zucchini/squash/onions, a tossed salad (with sesame ginger dressing), and fresh tomatoes with balsamic vinegar and feta. MMMMM.
I do have to admit to having a bowl of ice cream at about 11PM. It was light peanut butter cup. Yum. And I had a few more Bull’s Eye’s throughout the day.
Sunday
We woke up Sunday and basically had a repeat of Saturday. Muffin and a bike ride. We did the same ride as Saturday and Kristen came along with us. She kept up the whole way and we had a lot of fun just lining up together and charging. Terrible headwind coming back though.
I ate two bowls of dry mixed grains with blueberries, cinnamon, flax seed, a bit of splenda, some Honey Bunches of Oats and a small amount of 1% milk. I had the first bowl and after just sweating half my body weight on the ride, I wanted some more food. I was pleasantly stuffed afterward and didn’t really want to put on a bathing suit. We went to the main boardwalk beach today.
Got to love my squinting and terribly windblown/salty hair. We were looking directly into the sun light. This picture is of Kristen, me, Justin and Dan. I was on a mission to try and get rid of my tan lines from my halter top bathing suits. It didn’t work.
After laying out for awhile, Justin wanted to get some ‘beach stuff’. Apparently beach stuff means every kind of food he could get his hands on (he wanted fries, ice cream, popcorn and taffy. I at least talked him out of the popcorn. Damn him for his fast metabolism!). They got boardwalk fries which I had a few (maybe 6) of them. I said I wanted custard, so we went to an ice cream place. I ended up getting low fat tangerine ice cream. It tasted like a Orange Creamsicle. It made my stomach hurt a lot afterwards, which makes me think maybe I should try taking lactose stuff before I eat dairy. I’ve always had dairy issues that have gone along with my Crohn’s, I just have never tried taking anything for it. I just try and eat it in moderation.
We got on the road at a little after 5 to head home. I had half of one of our muffins before we left. The ride was slow and long. We decided we wanted to make it all the way home before eating. This meant we needed a snack to hold us over. I got some apples and peanut butter at a gas station we stopped at.
At about 7:15 we stopped again (I had to use the bathroom) and I couldn’t turn this down at the check out line. I was getting starving!!
While we were heading into town, we both decided we didn’t want to cook. It was after 9PM and we were ready to just get home and relax, so we stopped and picked up pizza. I LOVE this pizza place–Zpizza. We got a large California salad with chipotle ranch on the side. Justin and I split this.
We got a medium Provence Pizza on whole wheat crust with soy cheese. It had artichokes, sliced tomatoes, basil, capers, and chicken sausage.
Seeing it was after 9PM and I didn’t feel like I had eaten a lot during the day, I was STARVING. I had 2.5 slices:
And no trips to the boardwalk are complete without some Salt Water Taffy:
I had two kisses after dinner.
Okay, time for me to go unpack and get some sleep. After sleeping late for two days, tomorrow morning is going to be hard!!! I will catch up on my blog reading tomorrow. I hope everyone had a great weekend!!!
