Packing Like a Pro

I backpacked Europe for 3 months.  This included 17 countries and every different type of weather that exists.  I had 2 pairs of pants, 1 skirt, 2 tee shirts, 1 hoodie, 1 Mountain Hardware Jacket….and that was it.  And a few pairs of bras, underwear, and 1 pair of flip flops and 1 pair of sneakers.  The flip flops had to double as shower shoes and going out shoes.  When I was in Madrid, I picked up a cover-up that seconded as a bath robe, a dress, a skirt, a beach towel and a bed sheet.  Needless to say, this trip was eye-opening in my packing ability and changed me forever.  And I am not sure that is for the better.  I am now determined to pack everything I need into 1 bag, no matter how heavy, how cumbersome, how annoying this may be.  I don’t want any one to ever help me and I get very hateful to airlines that tell me I must check my pack.  As you can tell, I find pride in this.

So we left (okay, I wrote this ahead of time and told it to delay post) this morning to go to the Dominican Republic for a week.  On vacations like this, my chic fashionista side gets in a terrible argument with my thifty, roughing it side.  The roughing it side one, and I packed it all (to the gills) in my pack.

I still have a few toiletries that I need to sneak into that thing, but they will fit.  So now you see my packing style.  (Oh and note to all: pack your sneakers first and at the bottom of your bag.  Makes everything a MILLION times easier.  *kicks herself for not figuring this out sooner*.

In addition to the clothing necessities (cowboy hat and some bikinis), I have packed some food for the trip.  This is a food blog, isn’t it?  We knew there had to be food.  We woke up at 5AM this morning to get to the airport by 6:30.  Yes, I know, that seems like a WHOLE LOT of extra time, but with three of us and only one TEENY bathroom, it is necessary.  The cab is picking us up at 6:00.  Our flight is at 8:30.  Damn you airlines for making me arrive 2 hours before international flights…..isn’t the Dominican considered domestic?

My stomach doesn’t work at 5 or 6AM.  It is on strike.  It likes to sleep soundly for a few hours and simply refuses to consume anything at that hour.  So I have packed a few things to hold me over (praying for some yogurt in the airport!) and I some how ate the last apple today and I am kind of pissed off at myself for doing that now!

We “should” arrive in the Dominican Republic around 1:55PM, so I am hoping to hold off on eating lunch until we get to the resort.  But with Justin and I’s history of travel, it may be January before we get there.  For breakfast:

1 packet of carnation instant breakfat (with fiber and no-sugar added).

Hoping for a thing of skim milk once I am past security.  This is why you must always pack one of these:

A nalgene bottle.

Which will come in handy when I want one of these:

And lastly, in case I get a little snacky, I got these fabulous things (okay, I’ll be honest, I have never tasted them.  The box is unopened.)

And the most important thing for a trip:

wetones1

Have a great day.  I should be arriving in the Dominican Republic around 1:55 today.  I hope to be checked into our room no later than 3PM and by the pool with a drink in hand by 3:15.

Have a fabulous Saturday!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
