"Now the afternoon is fading on"

My day has been crazy busy.  I guess I finally shook the vacation-procrastination.  Which I guess is a good thing.  And I think I’ll only remain busy for the rest of the month.  It is weird–when I am really busy, I pray for the slow times.  When it is really slow, I am bored and pray for work.

Workout
Went to the gym over lunch and my favorite type of ellipticals were unavailable.  There are 3 of them and the President of my company was in the middle one.  Our gym is HUGE (for some reason they only have 3 of this brand though) and it would have looked REALLY weird (not to mention awkward) if I got on the elliptical right next to him when there are like 90 open ones.  So I got on one of the more sucky older one’s.  I set it to random, level 6.0 and still got a pretty good work out.  I did this for 40 minutes.

This afternoon, I was having my standard Yogi tea (flavor right now–Licorice Mint) and one of my co-workers asked about it and said she currently has Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut and let me have a bag.  I really enjoyed it.  It is stronger in flavor than the other one’s I’ve tried, which I like.  My saying on the tea bag Say it straight, simple and with a smile.  I liked it.

After work I headed to physical therapy.  On the way to PT, I dropped off our underwater camera at CVS for 1 hour photo (with CD).  PT was kind of a let down.  I didn’t get the lift.  When the other doctor (who can make the lifts) saw me, he said that is the least of my problems.  He said he wouldn’t make me a lift right now.  He doesn’t think that is what causing the limp.  He simply thinks my right leg is still that weak.  He told me that I need to start lifting my legs, and lifting them hard.  He said “you need to start doing squats/lunges/etc where you are loading enough weight that you maintain form but you max out at 6 reps.  I know a lot of woman are terrified to lift like that.”  I stopped him right there and said that I have started lifting my upper body that was so I am more than happy to start lifting my lower body that way.  He simply said that I need to start building the muscle for power and the only way to do that is my lifting more.

Then I headed to the Red Cross to give blood.  That went simple and uneventful per normal.  I was almost exactly at my 56 day span.  I really do enjoy giving blood and try to make sure I do it as soon as I can.  Afterwards, I ate some pretzels and had a diet coke while I was in the ‘corral’ for my 10 minutes.

Haha—sorry about the dirty shirt (and yes, I do have shorts on).  That was taken post dinner making.  And look at that–you can see my great knee scar too.

pretzels13

These were 120 calories and I ate all of them.

Then I headed back to CVS to pick up the photos.  Only to find them in the EXACT same place I left them.  This was 2 hours later and they hadn’t even started on them.  They told me they would do them immediately, but my stubborn side decided I would rather wait another day than give them my money.  So I have my undeveloped disposable camera back in my hands.  After this whole situation, I was starving and snacked on the remaining 25% of my clif bar from yesterday that was still in my car.

Dinner
I didn’t get home until much later than normal and I had done 40 minutes at the gym over lunch, 1 hour of physical therapy and then donated a pint of blood.  I was starving for some nutrients.  And veggies it was.

A few weeks back I bought this ’sushi wraps’.  This included brown rice, sushi paper and soy sauce (which I didn’t use).  I don’t know why I waited to use it until tonight (I think it is because I didn’t want to share it with Justin. *waves at the husband*)  And well, it wasn’t all that amazing.

I cut up 1/4 of a carrot, 1/4 of a cucumber, 2T of avocado, some fat free cream cheese and some ginger.  I put some low sodium soy sauce on the side.

I also stir-fried up some veggies.  Basically, 1/2 carrot, 3 big broccoli florets, some fresh green beans, some tasty tasty zucchini, an onion slice, 1 garlic clove and some sesame oil.  I also added some grated fresh ginger, soy sauce and some Sriracha.   I dipped this into some Annie’s Green Goddess dressing (not picture.)

Making one of the rolls:

And another one all rolled up: (sorry about the c.c. on the fingers)

But in general, I won’t be buying these sushi wraps again.  The sushi papers were paper thin and so small.  I personally like the larger sheets that you can purchase.  This whole kit had 2 servings and each serving had 150 calories.  I ate them both.  The best part of this dish was BY FAR the brown sticky rice.  I think I would eat that tasty rice all by itself.

Dessert
I wanted something sweet and creamy, so I went for some ice cream.  I finally finished off my container of Like it size ice cream from Cold Stone.  This is now my third serving of the Like It (one Like it has 300 calories) so I think that is showing some pretty good self restraint.  I topped it with some of that godforsaken granola.  I think I saw the bottom of the box, so luckily I am almost through with it!

And in case you thought you had a bad day.  This guy had a much worse day (41 hours to be exact) than me, for sure!

Bottomless Pit?

At the end of my post last night, I said that I was planning on having dessert.  Well this apparently is the understatement of the week.  I ended up eating a TON. I am not entirely sure why.  Here are my three reasons.  A.) I didn’t eat enough during the day for all my workouts.  B.) My body was craving protein or C.) I have literally no self control.  My guilty conscious is leaning towards C.

A recap of the damage:

dessert12

Half a mango mashed up, a swirl of chocolate sauce and splash of soy milk and some granola.  (The granola is almost gone…thank god!)

cereal13

A bowl with cheerios (and some hidden granola at the bottom), soy milk and a bit more chocolate.

And because I some how was STILL craving something (but it wasn’t like my stomach was growling through any of this…)

milk12

A cup of light soy milk.

And I am aiming to shake the vacation weight I put on…this is probably not the right way to go about doing that.

Anyway.

Breakfast
A close repeat of yesterday, but I put the cinnamon in before I cooked the oats and I think this may have taken out the ‘eggy’ taste because it wasn’t there at all today.  1/2 cup of dried oats, 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of egg beaters, 1/2T of cinnamon.  Cooked 2 minutes at 80%.  Then added 1T of flax seed, 1t of honey and some granola.

I also had fruit on the side but my camera decided to destroy the photo.  It looked a lot like this:

AM Snack
I grabbed an orange and 4 pretzel sticks for my mid morning snack.  I always wonder, do I need a mid morning snack?  Could I just push through the gym and then simply eat lunch afterwards?  Is this a waste of calories?

Lunch
The last little bit of gazpacho: (that is about a cup)

soup13

Switched things up a bit today.  Went for baked chicken breast instead of tuna fish.  I used about 2 ounces of chicken breast and added about 1/2T of mayo, 1t of lime juice, some cumin, salt, pepper and fresh cilantro.

I will eat this on my salad with some crackers on the side.  My salad has some chopped tomatoes on the side, arugula and a bit of Annie’s Green Goddess Dressing.

(oh yeah and there is my adora for today.  I decided I would skip my pudding)

I sort of feel like this is A LOT of food….

PM Snack
Justin–I stole one of your yogurts…because you didn’t eat yours yesterday.  I am only helping out. :)   And I stole your favorite flavor.

With some cheerios on top.

I am going to go to the gym over lunch today and do some cardio.  I have physical therapy tonight.  I will get to find out about the lift.  I am praying it will fix all my problems (at least, all my leg problems…I got plenty of others that physical therapy can’t fix. :) )

Then Justin and I are going to donate blood tonight after PT.  I need to remember to hydrate all day!

Oh yeah, I ordered a new phone.  (I have had mine for a year and half and it has just been a horrible experience.)  I finally did a fatal drop to my current phone right before we left for vacation and broke the hinge on it.  I ordered a Motorola Q (I am on Verizon) which should be here Saturday.  Does anyone have a Q?  What do you think of it?

And here is a video of some (professionals) kite boarding in Cabarete:

Happy hump day!!!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
