The day flew by

The day went so quickly!!!  I think it was because I was out of the office earlier this week, so I was just so so so busy.  I kind of like when days go by that fast!!  I did go to the gym over lunch and did the elliptical for 40 minutes at level 6.0.  It felt good.  It was sort of funny, I accidentally grabbed a long sleeve tee-shirt to work out in, so I sweated even more!  I bet I looked like a fool working out in the long sleeve, but well, I wasn’t going to let something that small prevent my workout.

When I was leaving the gym I was listening to all the little teens/tweens in there.  I have come to decide that summer is my favorite time at the gym because of all the tweens in the locker room when I am changing.  I love listening to them talk, gossip, etc.  They are so innocent, think they are so cool, and yet totally clueless all at once.  It definitely reminds me of myself at that age—trying so hard at all the wrong things.  And also, boys weren’t nearly as difficult as I thought and I shouldn’t have been as self-conscious as I was.  If only I was able to tell them to not care that their flip flops don’t match their bathing suit and that boy that is ignoring you probably has a crush on you…or is simply having too much fun with his friends to want to put a lot of attention in a girl….and that boys fairly over analyze even a fraction of what girls do.

Okay, on to the food.

On the way to my doctor’s appointment, I was definitely hungry, so I ate about 2/3 of an emergency clif bar that I had.  I was only going to eat half, and I threw the rest into the back of the car.  Well at a stoplight, I turned around and fished that thing out and enjoyed even more.  Pathetic, I know. :)

On the way home from the doctor’s, I stopped at Trader Joe’s to get pizza dough (I LOVE LOVE LOVE their whole wheat pizza dough).  Never can I walk into TJ’s and honestly leave with only one thing.  Here is all I got (for $15)

grocerystore21

Some tea, ground flax seed, pizza dough, romaine hearts, 2 yogurts, 1 greek yogurt (with blueberries–never tried this before) and 5 bars.  I keep hearing fave reviews about the Odwalla bars and I have never gotten them before, so I got the trail mix, berries go-mega, sweet and salty peanut.  Mmmm.

I also bought these good looking things.

meringues

I like anything that I can eat 100 of and only have 100 calories!!!   Hello new addition to my trail mix!

Walking out of TJ’s, I ate one a ginger snap.

Dinner
Obviously, we were having pizza tonight for dinner.  I stretched out the dough and then put some goat cheese down and pesto sauce.  Then we put down garlic, bean sprouts, red bell peppers, tomatoes and some leftover meatballs.  Topped with crushed red pepper and pine nuts.

I cooked the crust first for 6 minutes at 400 degrees and then I cooked it for another 6 minutes with all the toppings.  I cut it into 9 pieces.

Justin said he wanted gazpacho with pizza and when I got to TJ’s, they were all out of it!! I was horrified.  And I wasn’t motivated enough to want to make some from scratch.  So I decided I would make something else instead.  This may seem really bizarre but it is SO good.  I bought some romaine hearts, rinsed them and then cut them each down the middle.  Heat up a skillet on medium-high and spray the romaine with non-stick spray.  Cook the hearts for 3 minutes per side (until a bit wilted but not browned and now limp.)

I topped the romaine with carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers.  Then I put about 1T of light cucumber yogurt dressing.

We both agreed this hit the spot!  It is so different from a plain tossed salad but just as easy.

Here is my pizza: (these are salad plates)

I could have eaten more because this was so good, but I told myself no.

Dessert
I am planning on having a skinny cow Skinny dipper for dessert.

Weigh-in Calculations
Okay, so I have now counted calories (and think pretty accurately) for 7 days.  So far today I have eaten 1507 cals, which means that for the past week I have had 11850 calories, or 1692.86 per day average.  I have worked out 5 times this week, so that would be 1.55 for my activity level this week.

Using the Harris Benedict formula, I should be able to predict what I will see on the scale tomorrow.

At a BMR of 1444.69 X 1.55=2239.27 to maintain.
2239.27 X 7=15674.87 calories this week to maintain 139.4
15674.87-11850=3824.87 less calories consumed this week.
3824.87/3500=1.09

So this means I should weigh 138.3 tomorrow on the scale.

Fingers crossed!!!

Should have stayed home

Let me begin by showing you the wonderful thing I got in the mail yesterday.  It did brighten my otherwise sick day—

sportsbra

A new sports bra from Oiselle, a women’s running apparel company.  Go check out all their really cute and functional products!!  This came from Sally Bergesen.  I will give you guys a complete review of it tomorrow (my gym bag was still packed from yesterday’s non-gym day and in the car, so I didn’t feel like repacking it for today.)  Immediately I could tell that this thing was so SOFT and cozy and supportive.  I think those are three MAJOR beginning points for a sports bra.  I’ll report back with how this thing does in action.

I walked into a firestorm at work today.  I knew there was a chance this was going to happen and that was part of the reason I wanted to make it into work.  There were some problems going on around here that I simply needed to get into the office and explain/deal with.  Just want I want to do when I am still feeling slightly under the weather–apologize and explain for issues I still am not 100% sure were my fault.  But at this point, it just seems easier to suck it up and accept responsibility and move on.  GRRR….but the more I think about it, the more pissed off I am.  I am not the one who dropped the ball on this issue.  I can point the finger at many other people, but alas, I can’t behave like a 2nd grader.  Just sucks I took the fall.

Last night I made myself eat a little bit more before I went to sleep to get my cals up around 1200.  I had a small cup of Golden Grahams and some light soy milk.  It definitely tasted good and I was okay eating it despite not having any appetite.

I am freezing cold today.  I guess that is just the next step of this lovely little virus.  I have on long pants and a long sleeve wool cardigan today.  And DC isn’t a chilly place in August.  Justin thought I was nuts in the car this morning commuting to work because I considered turning on the heat.  (He probably would have gotten out and walked.)

Breakfast
I found my new love this morning– wheat berries +  oats.  WOW!!!!  I had to bring half of my breakfast in with me to work.  I am not sure if this is because I still don’t have a great appetite or if this stuff is that thick and filling!!  1/2 cup of dried oats, 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of egg beaters, cinnamon, about 1.5T of raisins, 4 blueberries (I am all out) and 2 VERY ripe going bad if not consumed in the next 15 minutes strawberries.  I heated for 2 minutes on high and then added 2T of wheat berries, splash of soy milk, 1T of flax seed and 1t of honey.  It was perfection.

I also had my GFI sugar-free mocha, which was really nice.  It is helping to warm me up.

All my food that I have today is packed from yesterday morning.  I just put it all back in the fridge yesterday when I figured out I was too sick to face the day.  Hopefully it a.) isn’t soggy and b.) is something my stomach can handle.  (I am most concerned about my sandwich.)  I will let you guys know if I bail out on any of these foods choices.  My stomach is still a bit iffy and I really don’t have a great appetite (and no, I am not preggers!! Which everyone at my work feels is appropriate to ask….)

AM Snack
I grabbed an orange (it was so tasty on Monday) and figured I might want a little more (remember, this was all done yesterday, who knows if I actually will be eating all of this.) So I grabbed one of my new jello fruit things.  We will see how these things taste.

Lunch
I started with a typical salad (hope this still looks this fresh!) with arugula, red bell pepper, cucs and carrots.  I have about 1tsp of Annie’s Green Goddess (it is all gone!!) and 1T of mango dressing to add to this.

salad20

I decided to use up some of the meatballs from Monday night.  This is my take on a meatball sandwich.

2 halves of Sandwich thin bread, 1 tomato slice, 3 meatballs.

All closed up

Hopefully this will taste okay, the bread won’t be too soggy and the flavors will be strong enough to make this a decent sandwich.  It could be a complete bust.

And I obviously have my fat-free creme brulee pudding in the freezer.  mmmm.

PM Snack
I created my own trail mix.  This is about 110 calories–edamame, all bran, raisins, cheerios and some nuts.

pmsnack20

I have a doctor’s appointment after work today, then I need to pack.  We are heading to Justin’s parent’s beach house for the weekend.  Mmmm, another weekend relaxing in the sun.  I am taking my thesis with me to work on though.  This chapter is 49 pages.  ugh!!!  Hopefully the scale will be nice to me tomorrow morning seeing I will be wearing a bathing suit again this weekend (and next to a girl who is quite a few years younger than me,  weighs next to nothing but has some seriously impressive muscles–former rower.)  It will probably be a weekend of BEV….body en-V.

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
