Hello, hello! I am sitting outside on the porch, pitch dark, with the crickets still chirping. Definitely an okay way to start a Monday! How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was fabulous. And the Hokies won, despite my doubts (I know, I’m a terrible fan!). Sorry I didn’t post at all, but I was spending time with the fam, so I figured that was definitely allowed. Now let me attempt to start the weekend recap.
Friday
We left late Friday. It wasn’t until after 8 that we even got on the road to head to Blacksburg. I was exhausted (and hungry) already. We hadn’t even gotten down the street before I started thinking about dinner, so I thought maybe we should go ahead and stop now to get dinner instead of an hour and a half down the road…I may have eaten my arm off by then! And our favorite take out place in Falls Church–Crisp and Juicy!! I got the Aloha Chicken Breast sandwich. Bun+Chicken+Pineapple Slice+lettuce+Tomato+grilled onions & peppers+hot sauce. Messy but amazing.
I attempted to take another picture but it was a little hard in a moving car in the middle of the night.
On the side, like always, YUCA!
I ended up dozing for about 75% of the ride down. Poor Justin has to do the whole drive without any company. We walked into my mom’s house and crashed nearly instantaneously.
Saturday
I went and grabbed my sister, Abby, out of her bed and all three of us went jogging. We did basically the same route we did last Saturday (I ran my first mile 40 seconds faster! I am down to 12 minute miles….bum knee and all!) So it was about 45 minutes and I am thinking it was almost 4 miles. It was INSANELY humid for being so early in the morning!
I got home and showered as quickly as possible, made the food we were taking to the tailgate and all three of us were basically out the door in less than an hour. I was semi-impressed! I made myself some oatmeal and took it with me in a to-go cup. I had packed a zip-lock bag with oats, flax seed, blueberries, cinnamon, raisins, almonds and a few chocolate chips so I knew I could have my normal breakfast even while I was away from home.
In my little cup
I don’t have any real pictures of my food/drinking for the rest of the day. I sort of grazed throughout the day. I can say that there were quite a few beers, at least one jell-o shooter, some bourbon and diet coke in the game, and a tall glass of Firefly Ice Tea Vodka. This stuff is amazing. Anyone who reads this and lives in Charleston, I am insanely jealous! This is now the second time I’ve had this stuff and it has been wonderful both times.
We did head over to my friends Cybil and Gregg’s tailgate for a bit and two great things came out of this…1.) Cybil asked me if I wanted to run the Napa Valley Marathon in 2010 with her. Ummm, yes!!!! I can be ready to at least finish a marathon by then! And 2.) Cybil is 13 weeks pregnant!!! I was so thrilled for the two of them! Planning for the marathon is here way of knowing she will lose the baby weight (she is TEENY TINY!) and I decided that that can kind of be my plan to start thinking about having children after the marathon. I will be 30 in 2010, so I think that sounds like a good little life goal.
So here are some photos from tailgating:
Chuck and the Daiquiri Wacker!
Abby, Dave, Zach, Justin and myself
The boys
My niece and my brother after she decided she wanted to get soaking wet to cool off. Look at those GORGEOUS eyes!
Inside the game:
Sisters!
Our seats. Look at all that orange!
And well, I will leave you with this photo….let’s just put it this way. My husband was not sober after the game.
Somebody decided to use the electric cart while we were in Kroger.
After the game, I did eat a few bites of chips and cheese dip and I had 2 slices of pizza. And they were good.
I stayed up and watched the USC v. OSU game, but I was exhausted after that. I got about 20 minutes into the Michael Phelps SNL….he wasn’t all that funny, unfortunately.
Sunday
My mother made some fabulous looking french toasted on Sunday morning, but I knew after the day I had had, I needed to start with some trusty oats! Same ingredients as Saturday except I added some powdered sugar on top, so I didn’t feel totally left out from the french toast crowd.
I still was hungry (HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??!) and had a bowl with kashi go lean, some dried fruit and a little spoonful of PB on the side.
Despite the appearance of some plums in that picture, I did not get to eat any. My nephew, Michael, stole them all from me.
Soon after breakfast, we got on the road and headed back to Northern VA. The ride was pretty easy. We stopped around 3 and I was hunger (???!!) and I got a wrap of roasted chicken, lettuce, tomato, onions, peppers and buffalo sauce.
I ended up tearing off a lot of the wrap because it was just unnecessary.
It was pretty good. I also had a bottle of fake sugar.
When we got to Northern VA, we ran about a million errands. We stopped by the house, which looked amazing. Only 1 and half weeks until we close!! I snacked on this thing while we were walking around. It is hands down, by far, the best Odwalla bar. The banana nut!!! It tasted JUST like a banana nut muffin. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend these!
After going to the house, then we went to Wegman’s, and then finally I headed to the gym. Shamefully, I ate a few of these while changing to work out.
I did at least have a good hard workout! I did the cardio wave for a little over 40 minutes, then I went and lifted for another 35 minutes.

Finally we headed home. We didn’t even get home until around 8:30ish. We decided to have the same dinner as last sunday night—BBQ chicken salad. Lettuce, avocado, tomato, black beans, celery, corn, a little bit of cheese, chicken, sour cream and some BBQ sauce.
We also split this…the most amazing feta cheese!
the cheese! feta, olive oil and there are some peppers, whole garlic cloves and basil all in there too.
I also had a beer with dinner, just to round out the weekend.
I did some errands around the house (packed the lunch) and then headed to bed. I did have something sweet, which I totally and obviously DID NOT NEED!
My version of smores:
1 graham cracker, some PB, a few chocolate chips and a bit of whipped cream.
No matter what, it was definitely tasty!!
Monday
And here is a quick capture of the food planned for today.
Breakfast
1/2 cup of oats, 1/4 cup of egg beaters, 3/4 cup of water cooked at 60% power for 2 minutes. Then I added 1T of flax seed, some blueberries, trail mix and a granola chunk.
AM Snack
Kept it simply–a taste nectarine.
Lunch
I needed to get rid of the rest of the sweet potato from friday, so I sort of worked from there. Spinach salad with half a sweet potato, raisins and black beans. I have about 1T of Annie’s cowgirl ranch for my side.
Sandwich was just a sandwich thin with some more spinach and then half of a morningstar vegan patty. I wasn’t feeling too creative and I knew the salad was pretty hearty.
And I grabbed a rice pudding jell-o to go in the fridge.
PM Snack
I got some more yoplait yogurts. I am kind of excited to try some more flavors because these things definitely didn’t let me down!
Have a good monday everyone. At least it is sunny here and I move into a house that I own in less than 10 days!!!! Workout aims for today—cardio over lunch (not sure if I’ll do the cardio wave because my knee is hurting this morning) and then I have PT after work. See you guys later on!!
