The Good, the Bad and The Ugly

No not Virginia Tech, UVA, and WVU….

Okay, that was a really bad VT joke.

The Good

Everything went really well yesterday.  It was my last day of therapy and we bought a house.  What a day!  The walk through went great, everything looked PERFECT! And closing was brainless and easy.  Amazing!  Now we are in a whole lot of debt, but at least it is debt to ourselves!!  We made sure to have a glass of champagne in the new house to celebrate.  The movers come today and I cannot wait to get all situated!

The Bad

Yesterday while we were doing the walk through at the new house, I got an email from my thesis committee chair.  It basically said I needed to get my chapters submitted to my thesis committee that day.  I hadn’t completely finished my current case study but I knew I couldn’t use any excuses (i.e. I was closing on my house) because I have used could be seen as ‘excuses’ for why I haven’t finished this thing yet–My dad got cancer, my dad died, I got engaged/married, I blew out my knee…etc.  There was always something more important going on that my thesis was being pushed to the back burner.  So I came home after closing and worked for 5 hours straight on the thesis.  I got a lot done but in no way do I think what I submitted was perfect.  I did get it submitted to the whole committee (up through case study #1.)

The Ugly

When I turned in my thesis up to this point, I had to put a time line for when they can expect the rest.  I said October 15th for case study #2 (we think I can get away with only 2 case studies!) and then November 5th for the conclusion.  One of the men on my committee leaves at Thanksgiving and doesn’t come back until some time in 2009.  So this means I must defend prior to Thanksgiving.  I really need to focus all my energies onto this thesis so that I can get it done.  It is now or never.  With that said, I have decided to go on blog-hiatus.  I may still post here and there through the next two months, but I cannot do a daily (or twice a day) post.  I need all my time for this silly little thing called a thesis.

I will be back.  And feel free to send me uplifting messages to keep me motivated:  sweetsandsweats@yahoo.com or Twitter: Fitzalan

    1. Congrats on the house! So exciting!

    2. Take the time to focus on your thesis. I think you have outlined good deadlines for yourself, and persevere and you’ll get it done. You have had major life events happen, which is totally understandable and now use all those life events as ammunition to get this thing done. Look how much you’ve gone through in that time — if you can manage all of that you can ABSOLUTELY knock out a thesis. It’s minute in comparison :) Go get ‘em girl!

I just reread that — and the “totally understandable” bit was not about the actual events — I was referring to the reasons why you had delayed the thesis. Don’t want to sound heartless there!

Oh, wow! What a crazy time for you. OF COURSE you need to focus on this…I’ve often thought to myself, “This girl spends a lot of time on these posts!” Taking pictures of and recording everything you eat can get time-consuming, I’m sure.

Best of luck to you! And WOO-HOO on the new house!!!!

Oooh Fitz, you’ll find nothing but support here for your efforts to prioritise… your thesis should absolutely be your primary concern…as long as you pop in every now and then and let us know how you’re doing…give a wee fitz fix, as it were…then I reckon you’ll not get any complaints!

As horrendous as you’re probably finding the pressure you’re now under…is it maybe the motivation you needed to get this thesis done and dusted asap?

    Also, congrats Ms Homeowner!!

Totally understandable!! We will be here whenever you have time. :-) Good luck with the thesis, I can’t even imagine how much work that must be!!

And congrats on the house!!! How exciting!

That is awesome that you are getting ready to move in!!! How exciting. And I like the idea of being in debt to myself. :-)

You definitely seem like a person who has her priorities straight, so it’s completely understandable that you need to take some “time off.” Something’s gotta give, right?

Good luck with everything. Can’t wait to hear how everything goes!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
