Happy Halloween!

I absolutely love Halloween.  I have for years and years.  I think it is because it is a fun, low stress, low commitment holiday.  There is no traveling, there is no gift giving (albeit children I am sure view candy as gifts), no fancy dinners.  And the level of time (if any) that you put into a costume is completely up to you.

As I kid, I lived in the heart of a city, so we had TONS of places to go trick or treating.  We took pillowcases and easily filled up more than one.  We finally would go home because we were exhausted not because it was late or all the candy was gone.  I imagine that we walked miles on those nights.

In under grad, I didn’t do a whole lot.  But that changed when I got to grad school.  I adored Halloween.  I think my favorite costume was She-ra.  I cannot find a scanned in picture from this Halloween unfortunately, but let’s just say it was VERY authentic.  That was also my favorite weekend potentially of my entire life.

Halloween 2003–Friday night was Halloween, which I some how stayed up until sunrise  (and went to a late night house party where this almost the entire cast from the Pearl Island season of Survivor was at:

very bizarre and they were way too cocky for a small house party in Blacksburg, VA…that and I had never seen Survivor so I had no idea who these people were.

Finally went home…took a quick nap and then got up to tailgate.  VT vs. Miami—2003.

Just watch the video (and the music isn’t overlaid on that video, that is the music from the stadium that the team enters to.)  Probably one of the craziest days of my life.  I didn’t get my voice back until at least Wednesday of that week.  We won 31-7.

I still get kind-of excited just thinking about the whole weekend.  Beyond fabulous.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.  Halloween.

Last night I decided to make cupcakes:

I never have figured out why people buy frosting.  So easy to make and taste better!

I attempted one ghost, then decided I wasn’t artistic enough to do Halloween characters.

We are going to take some to our neighbors tonight while we all have trick or treaters.

I actually didn’t eat a single one.  Justin says they taste great.  I just wasn’t craving a ton of sugar, so after I made these I decided to have my own dessert.  Right now I am ADDICTED to this peanut butter (I have seen it on tons of other blogs)  Peanut Butter & Co–Cinnamon Raisin Swirl.  This is the first kind I have bought from this company and I am hooked and can’t wait to try other flavors and products!

On a slice of toasted pumpkin bread:

Then this morning, I had my customary oats:

I am trying to limit what I eat during the day today because I know there will be candy in my future tonight, so I tried to make a very filling breakfast.  1/2 cup of oats, 1/4 cup of egg beaters, 3/4 cup of water + cinnamon.  Microwaves at 80% for 2:45.  Then I added 1T of flax seed, some trail mix and then a small handful of Kashi Good Friends and some of Justin’s corn Chex.  Hopefully this will keep me full for awhile!

And well, we were allowed to wear costumes into work today.  I wasn’t really planning on wearing anything but then last minute I decided to dress up.

Side ponytail, leg warmers, Goonies never say Die t-shirt.  Massive earrings that are driving me crazy already.

I can’t decide if I am an 80’s girl or Deb from Napoleon Dynamite.

Tonight I am planning on putting on my flapper dress for the trick or treaters.  Thanks to advice from Mizfit, I picked a costume that is quite tight and unforgiving, therefore, hopefully I won’t eat as much candy!  Lets just hope I can fit in it, I haven’t tried it on in years.

Anyway, I hope all is well and have a fabulous Halloween!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
