Election Day

I think that I have mentioned this on the blog before but I have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science (mine is focused in International Relations) but none the less, I have take A LOT of domestic political classes.  Needless to say, that makes today sort of like Christmas….well, maybe not that good.  I would say it is like having your favorite sports team in the whole world playing in the world series/super bowl/Stanley Cup, etc.

I don’t talk politics.  I never really have and I never will.  It is sort of like trying to talk religion with someone.  I honestly do not want to persuade anyone to change their mind.  More than anything, I just want people to be educated voters, but aside from that, I fully support everyone’s free choice in who they vote.

I hate when politics come up at a party or at work.  I simply cannot put myself in those situations.  Basically no one at my office knows that I have a master’s degree in Political Science because more than anything, I come across as uninvolved when people are talking about politics.  I do this for two reasons…1.) I don’t want to discuss my choices.  I know why I make them and I feel they are quite informed and they fit well with me.  2.) It is a little bit unfair.  I have done more research, reading, debating, etc. than the average person on these topics.  I have more facts and data than most people do.  I have learned that I come across as a bully when I discuss politics because of this, so I just don’t do it.

Back to today.  I live in Virginia.  I for the first time in my voting life live in a battleground state.  The politicians care about Virginia.  They come visit us, they spend some of the campaign money here.  It is fabulous!  So exciting!  Also, this is the first time that my state may actually go blue (yes, there is my affiliation.) which has not happened in my entire lifetime and nearly the entire lifetime of my parents.  I am amazed and excited….Justin is a bit terrified of my excitement today.

I cannot wait until tonight.  I hope we know tonight!  I just want to know!

So I wanted to add a little poll today.  No, I do not care who you voted for.  I think that is a personal decision that you should feel proud and energized about.  My two questions are—Did you vote and if so, how long did you wait in line?  I really think the media blew this whole waiting in line thing out of proportion.  Yes, there was a line in the morning.  Some places I am sure were worse than others…but in general, it sounds like everything was fairly manageable.  I am sure the lines will increase again after work tonight.

And for all those lurkers—please delurk enough to at least answer the polls!!!

Have a wonderful day!!

I’m with you. I don’t care about influencing other people over to my way of thinking, either.

    Go, blue! :)

I agree…when any political talk comes up, my stomach turns and I just hope people don’t ask my opinion! But it is so exciting to see everyone pumped up about voting.

I hate talking about politics with people – I feel exactly the way you do! And I hate it more when people try to antagonize me into debating with thme, which seems to happen a lot!!!

I just did your poll late. I hope you still care!

As a poly sci girl myself, I know how you feel about getting into these issues w/ friends and family. I stay out of the conversation!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
