Back in the Land of the Living

Wow, what three days of antibiotics can do for a girl!  I am finally peeled myself off the couch and started doing chores again.   Yesterday I wasn’t much better than Friday.  I laid on the couch all day.  It was sad to waste a weekend doing absolutely nothing, but I really needed another day to heal.  My boss did email me an assignment that needed to be turned in today, saying that if I hadn’t been well enough to come in Thursday & Friday, that I probably was still sick enough to be laying around doing nothing.  Luckily he was definitely right!!  Also the negative of working for an Israeli company–their weekend is Friday-Saturday and their work week is Sunday-Thursday, so things are due on Sunday’s if they are being sent to Tel Aviv.

My appetite was still off and I didn’t eat anything (other than drinking a Dan Active light and having a 40 calorie frozen fruit bar) until the afternoon.  By then I wanted something fairly hearty because these antibiotics are TEARING my stomach apart, so I thought if I got something hearty in there that it wouldn’t hurt as much (which was true, but it still did ache/cramp/hurt.)

I grilled 2 slices of whole wheat bread with a bit of butter.  Then I put some olive oil mayo on one slice and some provolone cheese on the other slice.  Then I topped with turkey, tomato, spinach and avocado. This thing was SIMPLY divine!

I think I could eat this daily.

I am sure I ate other things during the day.  I think I consumed a thing of Activa yogurt when my stomach started hurting and maybe ate a oats & honey granola bar.  There are no photos and my drug filled brain doesn’t have a great memory.

I didn’t really want anything for dinner, so the husband went and got me some soup and bread.  To be honest, I think all I wanted was warm, toasted, soft, buttery bread.

I had 2 hunks this size with a bit of butter.  (Apologies for the crappy photos–I will have access to my nice camera again tomorrow!)

I had a bowl of Campbell’s Savory chicken soup.  This stuff was not that good and definitely not what I would call savory.  But I wasn’t too picky/choosy anyway.

After I finished this, I basically laid on the couch and watched Pride and Prejudice (Kera Knightly version) and then went to bed.  Justin went next door and hung out with the neighbors.  I was so jealous–I wanted to go!!!  It is ALWAYS a blast when they have people over.  Apparently Justin asked the wife if she would give Justin and I salsa dancing lessons (she and her husband are Columbian) and she was really thrilled about this.  Oh no, this could get ugly!

This morning I felt better from the moment I woke up.  I didn’t feel like I had to stay in bed.  At about 8AM, I already was antsy to get up and start working on all the chores I had piled up.  I woke up, put in a load of laundry, and then did a 60 minute power yoga vinyasa class.  It was tough!  I definitely was sweating…hopefully the rest of this nastiness left.  There is no way I could do cardio quite yet…any harder breathing than the slow, methodical breathing of yoga would be too much.

Then I headed to the grocery store, Target and a few other places (Had a small little Dan Active light yogurt thing).  I stopped and had a tall skim Rooibos vanilla tea latte.  It was fabulous.  You definitely could taste the vanilla.  It was a nice little pick me up.

All I can say, do not go to the grocery store on Super Bowl Sunday.  Sheesh, was it crowded!  But I didn’t really have any choice if we wanted to eat this week.  I did get some exciting new/different things for me.  Can’t wait to create and eat them this week!

When I got home I made myself some lunch. I started with a small side salad with spinach, wheatberries (mmmm!), baby carrots and a little cucumber dressing.

Then I had the leftovers from Thursday night–the quiche/frittata concoction.  I had it with some salsa on the side and some sour cream on top.  (This is a appetizer size plate.)  It was okay…not as good the day I made it.

And then I decided to try make my own boiled beets.  I think I have only had canned/jarred beets my whole life.  WOW!!!  What was I thinking all these years?!?!  While yes, these take awhile (1 1/2 hours to boil) they are incredible.

Okay time to head back to my chore list, which includes taking my car in to get looked at/fixed.  Fingers crossed that it won’t be too expensive!!

I don’t really think we are doing anything for the Super Bowl…a.) I am still only functioning at like 50%, b.) I don’t really care about the Steelers or Arizona (sorry!).  I am cheering for Arizona though…and good commercials.  We were invited to stop by another neighbors for their party, which we probably will (still meeting the neighborhood, so it would be a nice thing to do.)

Hope everyone has a great Super Bowl night!!!!!  Enjoy (but don’t forget tomorrow is Monday…)

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
