Bit of Writer’s Block

I figured I should take a break.  I have been working on the thesis for a few hours this morning and I saw the following edit and my brain literally stopped working: “Add a brief paragraph to address the issue of why the plebiscite was not held in all these years.”  Ummm, I am not quite sure how to make a paragraph that addresses that whole situation that one would constitute as ‘brief’.  As you can tell, I’m back in the depths of the thesis. I received my edits for the last case study that I have to do on Thursday.  I started working through the edits yesterday and my aim is to get the entire case study resubmitted by tomorrow night.  This means I will submit everything I have to date (4 chapters + 3 case studies) to my thesis committee for reviews.  I still need to work on my final chapter which would be my conclusion, which sort of scares me and I don’t know why.  Then I will received edits from my entire committee and hopefully we will set a date for the defense.  I am already registered for this semester (holy crap it cost A TON to register to defend…one hour of my life will cost $1700.) so the ball is rolling to be done no later than May…thrilling yet terrifying!

I am enjoying some lovely Eric Hutchinson while writing.  His music definitely goes well with some thesis work.

On to the recap.

Our dinner reservations weren’t until 8:15 last night, so I knew I should probably snack on a little something when I got home from work so I wasn’t STARVING by the time we got our food.  Which in the end didn’t really prevent me from overeating…..but well…..  So I had a few crackers with some spicy hummus and a bit of cheese.

And while the hubby had himself a beer, I had a cup of Yogi tea

Then we headed out to Clyde’s.  We got seated fairly quickly.  Our table was right near the piano player, who was quite good, so that really helped set the atmosphere.  I got a Maker’s Mark manhattan as my cocktail.  (Oh and all photos I am putting in here from last night were found on Google.  I didn’t take any pictures while we were there, I was enjoying the evening too much to remember to take photos.  Sorry!)

And they brought out a plate of bread.  It was amazing sourdough bread.  Very thick, crispy crust and warm and fluffy inside.  I probably had 2 (3?) slices with a bit of butter.

And I ordered the Seafood Newburg for dinner.  I asked that they switch out the creamy sauce with the marinara.  I do this more for my stomach than for calorie reasons.  The Crohn’s does not do well with thick, creamy, dairy products.  The newburg was FABULOUS.  It had perfectly cooked scallops, rockfish and shrimp in there.  The sauce was thick and had a great little spice at the end of it. (Mine didn’t have mussels like this photo, but close enough…)

I ate a majority of the bowl they gave me, much to my surprise!  I also had a few pictures of Justin’s incredible steak….so juicy!

I had a glass of malbec wine with my pasta.  It had a nice licorice note, which went well with the spicy tomato sauce.

And after eating all this food, Justin decided we should have a dessert, which is something we NEVER do.  And well, I can’t say no to my husband.  He ordered the warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.  Which is a bit bizarre because neither of us really like chocolate, but we definitely like our share of brownies.

And well, I definitely ate my fair share of the dessert.

I also had a teeny glass of port with my dessert…I have to say, I wanted the port more than I wanted the dessert but the combination was fabulous.

Needless to say, it was an evening of indulgences and excesses.

This morning I woke up at around 6:30 and could not go back to sleep.  I told myself to lay in bed until the sun came up and then I could start working on my thesis.  At 7:30 I was still wide awake and my brain was running.  I blame the prednisone.  Then all of a sudden I fell back sound asleep and slept A LOT later than I planned or would have liked!

When I got up this morning, I was still definitely full from dinner last night, so I decided I would just have a nice cup of tea.  I decided to use my Teavana kettle and a combination of the lemon roobios and the raspberry sangria.

Mmmm, I love teavana.  Too bad it is SO expensive!!!  Anyway, this was the perfect way to start the morning.  I added about 1t of sugar to my tea.

Around 1, I started to get hungry, so I made myself a sandwich.  A whole wheat pita with 3/4 of a slice of provolone cheese, a few slices of buffalo turkey, some spicy hummus and a bit of spinach.

It hit the spot.

And now I am back to work.  If it is nice where you are, go outside and enjoy it for me!  The husband is outside washing our cars…it is like 60 degrees here!!!

I am planning (if I have time) to hit up the gym for a bit of cardio and then we are doing dinner at the in-laws tonight.  Note to self–DO NOT OVER DRINK OR EAT!  (My in-laws, especially my father-in-law, are infamous for dragging me into agreeing to drink one too many martinis (anything over 1 is too many for me!) and they always have such tasty, tasty food around!)

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
