Today is already flying by

It is already a little after 9…where have the last 2 1/2 hours gone?!  And I think I’m already ready for a nap.  Oh well.  Today is looking hectic at work, lots of meetings and then I also have the thesis to contend with tonight.  I worked on it until 7:30 at work last night.  I printed the whole thing out (except for my conclusion and bibliography) and it is 144 pages!!!  I really don’t think writing the conclusion should be all that tough.  I went and ready other thesis conclusions and they are actually fairly short–3-5 pages.  That is downright simple at this point!  I am going to try and working on that this evening.  If I can get my entire thesis submitted to my committee this week and state my intent to defend, life would be incredible.

Workout

Yesterday I did 20 minutes of the cardio wave set to about level 17.  I was planning on doing my whole session on it, but I got the urge to run on the treadmill.  It was the first time I’ve run in a few weeks.  I did 9 minutes run and 1 minute walk twice.  So the whole cardio session was 40 minutes.  The run was at about 5.2mph and the walk was at 4.1mph.  Still quite slow, but I am getting better.  The knee definitely was getting weak by the end.  And this morning, whoa was it sore and a bit swollen.  I really wish it would just finally give up and commit to the program of 100% recovery!

Dinner

Seeing we didn’t get home until after 8PM last night, the aim was to have food on the table as quickly as possible.  Haven’t you noticed this is an on-going trend for us?  What will I do if I ever have extra time in my life?

For dinner, I cooked a package of Wegmans gnocchi, which I adore.  They come out like light, fluffy little pillows.  Not dense, heavy, gnocchi.  Heaven!  I then browned some butter with some pine nutes, added some spinach, arugula, garlic, chicken sausage and the gnocchi.

(And I just noticed that my pictures are all a bit funky.  I accidentally took them all on the wide angle setting.)

On the side, I made a plain side salad and put a homemade dressing of olive oil, vinegar, rosemary, s&p.

Nice and light and quick for a late evening meal.

We ate dinner last night in front of the TV so we could watch Obama’s speech.  It went fairly well…pretty obvious where his strengths and weaknesses are and the topics he is more comfortable speaking on.

I knew I hadn’t really eaten a lot during the day, so I had a little something for a dessert.  I got an almond joy in my stocking from Santa and I finally opened it last night.  I am not the biggest chocolate fan but I am a HUGE coconut fan, which overrules the chocolate.

I cut the bar into quarters and had 1 quarter last night.  The rest went into the freezer.  They will be tasty!!

Breakfast

I woke up STARVING this morning.  My stomach growled all night.  Obviously my dinner wasn’t quite as much as my body wanted.  After my oats held me over so well yesterday with that added 1/2 cup of milk, I decided to do the same thing today.  1/2 cup of oats, 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 cup of milk and 1/4 cup of Cracklin’ Oat bran on top.  The oats were still too soupy.  I think I need to decrease my water next time.

Lunch

This is the last time this week you will see this sandwich combination, I promise.  The lunch meat was on its last legs so I knew I needed to finish it today.

1/2 whole wheat pita, a smear of red pepper hummus, lettuce and some buffalo turkey.

And my salad was so good last night with dinner, I decided I wanted one with lunch.  (I have 1/2T of Wegmans all natural honey mustard dressing to add to this.)

And the same cottage cheese and cracklin’ oat bran(COB) combination.  How did I go so many years without my COB?!

I need to be careful or I will eat so much of this stuff that I will hate it in no time.

Snacks

I went fairly light on the snacks today because they are heavier one’s than I normally take.

1 pear (hopefully this is ripe and soft!) and a new flavor of the Nectar Bars (well, new to me)

And where we are all packed up and ready to go.

Okay, time to start my day of meetings.  My aims for the day:  Go to the gym over lunch for some cardio, work on the thesis (get the conclusion written after work!), do a 20 minute power yoga session tonight, make a tasty Indian soup for dinner.  Mmmmm, sounds like a good day!

18 days until I leave for Japan!!!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
