I can tell the next few weeks are going to FLY BY! It is already Tuesday and this weekend is getting over scheduled quite quickly. Justin and I have a baby shower down in Newport News (I am really excited it is a co-ed baby shower because I know the couple initially because of the husband) and we are going to leave uber early to get down there in time to take my grandmother (who also happens to live in Newport News) out to lunch. It will be a long long day, but we are definitely too cheap to want to pay for a hotel.
Then next Monday I have my colonoscopy. YIKES! So that means Sunday will be spent ‘prepping’. Don’t worry, I’ll spare you the details. This will be my 4th colonoscopy in my life. And they definitely aren’t the worst thing in the world. With that said, if any of you have parents who are 50+ and they haven’t had a colonoscopy, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure they get one done. My father had ZERO symptoms and we have no family history of cancer. He waited until he was 59 to get his first colonoscopy and he was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. The test aren’t really that big of a deal, you are so drugged up that nothing matters. The worst part is the prep.
As my shirt reminds you:
it says Remember your Colonoscopy And I advise that NO ONE run a race with anything that is covered in glitter. This will come back to haunt you!
Okay, off the topic of colonoscopies.
More excitingly, I leave for Japan the following Saturday (the 28th!). I am getting really excited. I need to start planning a little better. I have no itinerary and really nothing planned. Basically I have a backpack, a airplane ticket and a JR pass….and a cell phone number for my friend in Okayama. What more do I need? She said that she may take the entire week off work, so once I figure out if it is both of us traveling or just me, then I will make a better itinerary. (She can’t get a JR Pass because she lives in Japan and traveling unlimited by train for a week probably will get a bit expensive.)
Monday
I did manage to do a 60 minute power yoga session last night. It was a podcast that I downloaded from ITUNES and I definitively wasn’t sold on the guy. His directions weren’t always the best. But no matter what, I felt good after doing a whole lot of high-to-low pushups, up dogs, down dogs, etc.
Dinner
For dinner last night, I wanted something light and fresh, which is a bit odd because it is starting to get really cold around here again. I figured Chicken Chipotle Salad would be a good choice. This is one of Justin’s favorites and it is so quick and easy….if you had rotisserie chicken this would be ready in like 10 minutes.
2 heads of romaine lettuce
1 can of black beans
1 can of whole kernel corn
some halved grape tomatoes
2 chicken breast (just cooked plain on a skillet)
1/2 an avocado
For the dressing, I used 2/3 cup of light sour cream, 1/3 cup of fresh cilantro, some cumin, chili powder and 1 chipotle pepper with about 1/2T of its sauce.
All combined in a really big bowl.
I started with one bowl
and then had another
I love this salad!
After packing my food for today, the leftover birthday cake was screaming my name, so I had a little plate of it.
So, so, so good.
Breakfast
I haven’t had my breakfast yet this morning. It is sitting in the freezer waiting for me to get hungry. When I wake up in the morning, I honestly feel like I have a lightweight bowling ball stuck to my stomach. It is a fairly miserable way to wake up, but after a few hours and moving around, it does seem to get better.
Seeing I needed something portable, I decided one of my funky oats smoothie was in order. 1/2 cup of oats with 3/4 cup of water cooked on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Then I add the oats, 1 container of Wegmans light blueberry yogurt, a splash of milk and some ice into my magic bullet. Blended and now have it freezing up in the freezer here at work.
Lunch
I tried a different kind of lunch meat this week. Wegmans Sierra Turkey. I haven’t tried this before and I don’t really know what to expect out of the term Sierra. Spicy, smoky???? We will see. Anyway, 1/2 whole wheat pita with 1/2T of hummus, some spinach and turkey.
Because the weather is chilly again, I thought soup may hit the spot. This is just half a can of Campbell’s Select Harvest–Vegetable and Pasta.
I am feeling soup for dinner tonight, so this may be an ongoing theme for the day.
Lastly, 1/4 cup of cottage cheese with some Cracklin’ Oat bran on the side
Snacks
This pear was screaming my name. It has gotten to the perfect squishy texture so I cannot wait to enjoy it!
And a yogurt and one Nature’s Valley granola bar.
And to my surprise when I got on the scale this morning (for the first time in nearly a week!)
Despite feeling bloated and like I have a bowling ball in my stomach, I have lost some weight. So weird. I definitely didn’t expect to see a decrease. But trust me, I will take it!!
Aim for today–head to the gym over lunch and do some cardio. I may actually hit up the treadmill again. I am feeling a nice run in my legs. Oh and I forgot to mention! Yesterday was my 2 year anniversary of blowing out my knee. February 16th, 2007. What a horrid day. But well, I haven’t made a complete recovery by any means but I would say I am 75% better.
Have a great Tuesday!
