1 week from today, I will be defending my master’s thesis. This has been YEARS in the making. I was supposed to defend it almost exactly 4 years ago. I cannot express how stressed I am. I worked on the presentation a bunch of the weekend. I am not feeling that great about it at this point. I hope that if I run the presentation at least once a day and then just study my thesis a bunch between now and then, then hopefully it will go okay. The unknown is killing me.
So how was your weekend? Mine was great, busy, but at least I wasn’t at work!
Saturday workout
I went to the gym because it was just too windy outside to go running. I did 60 minutes on the elliptical doing intervals. 2 minutes hard, 2 minutes easy. After I was done, I went and lifted. I did pushups, squats, situps, chest flys and lunges. I really need to get a better organized strength training session going on!
After the gym I stopped at the store and headed home to make food to take to a cookout we were going to. I took a big salad with olives, goat cheese, pears, nuts and grape leaves.
And these yummy guys (I didn’t have any but did have a few licks of the batter!)
I had a great time at the cookout. We got to see a lot of people that we haven’t seen in a few months. It is sort of pathetic what homebodies we have turned into seeing we live out in Ashburn while most of our friends live in Arlington (almost 45 minutes away).
I probably had 3 bowls this size of the salad (with some light balsamic dressing on top)
While at the part I nibbled on some chocolate chip cookie bits and I figured I ate 1 cookie by the end. I also ended up having 3 Blue Moon Rising Moon Spring Ale’s.

Sunday
We made it to 9AM church! Which was wonderful because it meant it was still early when we got home. This may need to be the service we attend more often! On the way home from church we stopped at Wegman’s and got our weekly grocery shopping done. Nothing too exciting.
I did grab some sushi to have for lunch–spicy tuna.
It really wasn’t that good and I won’t buy it again. I am always let down by grocery store sushi.
and I had a few carrots for some crunch
Workout
I did manage to sneak in a run. I warmed up for 5 minutes and then did intervals of 1 minute running (hard–RPE-8) and then 1 minute easy walking. I did this for 36 minutes and then walked 5 minutes to cool down. My Nike + said I did 4.57 miles at an average of about 10:56 minutes per mile. I don’t know how accurate I think this thing is and I haven’t had time (or really figured out how) to calibrate it. Every time I try it gives me an error.
When I got home from my run, Justin was working in the yard, so I pitched in and helped. I weeded the front flowerbed and laid out about 6 bags of mulch into the flower bed. EXHAUSTING! Then feeling way too motivated, I planted about 55 bulbs and then another 40+ pansies. I am hurting today! But our yard is looking really good.
Oh yeah and I planted things for a garden! I am so excited to finally have my own little garden. Hopefully everything will grow. I planted 2 types of tomatoes–big boys and cherry, some cucumbers and some carrots. In a few more weeks I’m going to plant some more veggies.
Dinner
A nice big salad. Justin grilled up some mahi-mahi with carrots and asparagus. I served this on a big bed of leafy greens with some chick peas and some balsamic dressing on top.
And for dessert, a breyers sugar free all natural juice bar:
and there were probably a few of these consumed throughout the day.

Monday
And here we are at today. I am exhausted and my body is definitely tired. I am feeling all that yard work. I didn’t sleep all that well. I think it was a combination of my mind racing due to the thesis defense and sheer exhaustion settling in. The combination made for weird dreams and an achy body.
Breakfast
For breakfast I switched up my oats a bit. Back to how I was eating months ago and I really love this combination. 1/2 cup of oats with 1/4 cup of egg beaters and 3/4 cup of water. After cooked, I added 1T of shredded coconut and then a few small disc of chocolate and some raisins.
Mmmm, so gooey and sweet and good.
AM SNACK
A wasa cracker with 1/2T of Peanut butter spread out on it.
Lunch
Another veggie wrap. This time with 1T of hummus, 1/2T of baba ghanouj, some lettuce, cucumbers, raw asparagus and bell pepper.
and some baby carrots
and lastly a sugar-free Kozy shack rice pudding. I go through phases with these things. I love putting them in the freezer so they are almost like a frozen dessert (and it takes me a lot longer to eat them then)
PM Snack
I got these AMAZING coupons in the mail from Stonyfield’s so I went and bought some FREE Oikos. I haven’t really eaten a lot of Oikos so I am excited to try it out and compare to Fage.
with some Banana nut cheerios on the side. Have any of you tried these yet? I actually really like them. I was worried that the banana flavor would be fake and terrible (I hate fake banana flavor…like runts), but I was pleasantly surprised by this.

I am going to hit the gym over lunch. Aim–30 minutes elliptical and then lift. Seeing I know I need to get a schedule together for my lifting, I am going to do:
- Biceps (dumbbell)
- Triceps-skull crushers
- Shoulder Press
- Seated Rows
- Lateral Lunges
- Squats
- Pushups on Bosu
And this is just getting frustrating. I am hoping that it is still correlated to my stomach being a bit funky lately:
I ate an average of 1550 calories last week per day and I worked out ever day. And here are my results.
Stress related? Stomach related? I don’t know. I am frustrated and discouraged right now though.
Oh yes and don’t forget to submit your week 1 results for the 10 Week Challenge by this evening! Email them to me at sweetsandsweats@yahoo.com
