April 16–Always a tough day in the world of the Hokies. Part of me cannot believe it has been 2 years. I remember that day, those feelings, like it literally was yesterday. As a lot of you know, I went to Virginia Tech but I am also from Blacksburg. Being from such a small town (40,000 population but over 50% of that are an ever changing population of students), I don’t think anyone was unaffected. If you didn’t know someone personally, you knew someone from church who was killed or someone from the gym or a social acquaintance. It is a tough day and really does bring up a lot of emotions.
I lost my french teacher and had a friend who was shot 3 times. Luckily he survived and he has a moved on and is thriving since the shooting.
I am going to go donate blood today at the VirginiaTechforlife drive this afternoon in Falls Church VT campus. These drives are part of a program launched by Virginia Tech for blood drives with VT Alumni Associations across America during the month of April.
Additionally there is a candlelight vigil tonight at the Falls Church campus that we are going to attend.
Definitely a somber day but I was happy to see I made it almost 45 minutes watching the news this morning before it was mentioned. At least it isn’t like last year and it is the headline story.
Okay, on to more upbeat topics–food and fitness!
Workout
I did my spinning class yesterday. I have come to decide that I kind of find this teacher a bit annoying. She is hyper but not in a motivating way. And she kept talking about her vacation. I don’t want to hear about someone else’s vacation! I want to be on my own! No matter what, I did get a great workout in 45 minutes!
Dinner
It was a late dinner last night because I went shopping after work. I took some advice and made some purchases. I can’t find any pictures online of what I got though. I got a cropped BCBG jacket/Blazer that is a charcoal color with a black trim. It has short capped sleeves and one ornate button to close it.
And then I bought this (I am totally a purse girl.) little clutch/wallet:
Kate Spade Sullivan Street Maria.
So I didn’t get any shoes or jewelry…two things I was on the hunt for.
Then I got home, tried everything on and decided I am not wearing that dress. I have much more flattering dresses and I want to look H-O-T….I think I am going to go with something that has straps or is a halter top. Strapless just isn’t working right now. But seeing everything I bought yesterday was black, no big deal, it’ll still be worn.
And finally we ate. I grilled us chicken breast that I had marinated in buttermilk and poultry seasoning all day.
I made myself a big salad with the chicken, a medium sweet potato (cooked in the microwave), some steamed broccoli, steamed snap peas and some Newman’s dressing on top
and I have a girl scout cookie (do-si-do) for dessert
Wednesday’s Calorie total:1102 cals
(Yes I know it was low but I just wasn’t hungry…)
Breakfast
Back to my yummy yummy chocolate oats! I added a bit of Justin’s Oh’s to the bowl
An apple.
Lunch
I switched up the sandwich today. A PB&J. I so rarely eat these
It will be good.
and a salad made up of lettuce, carrots, cucs, peppers and sprouts. Some balsamic vinegar is drizzled on top.
and a yogurt
I haven’t had this kind yet. Have any of you? I feel like it could be great…or absolutely horrible.
I didn’t bring an afternoon snack because I’m donating blood at 3PM. I always eat a snack while I am the Red Cross waiting to “recover” so I didn’t bring anything with me.
I am going to AIM to go to my 5:15 yoga class today. Fingers crossed! It is a 90 minute class. Then we will head over to the vigil at 7:30 tonight. I knew it would be a very late night getting home, so I packed a late afternoon snack.
If I count a generic 100 calories for whatever I eat after giving blood:
Total calories so far today: 851 cals
Words just trickled down through the grapevine that people are getting laid off on my team today. If I get laid off, can I just continue on and get my ph.d and eventually be the most overqualified house wife in the world?
It is gorgeous here today.Enjoy it…and remember.

Wow, I also can’t believe the Virginia Tech tragedy happened so long ago, it’s very recent in my memory. I’m sorry for your loss and I hope the vigil goes well tonight.
I’m not a fan of Light N Fit at all. It tastes so artificial to me! I love the clutch!
eeek! I remember watching this on tv at school 2 years ago, very sombering and tragic
i LOVE kate spade…so so much! Enjoy your PB&J, it looks wonderful!! I hope your having a great thursday! and congrats on your great dissertation!!!(sorry it’s a little belated!) AWESOME job!!!!!
Thanks for sharing re- Vtech. My prayers will be with you today that you get through it with some peace!
That clutch is deliciously gorgeous. And your jacket sounds FFFAAAAABBBBulous. BCBG is always a good choice- do you know it stands for “bon chic, bon genre” (good style good taste)?
Enjoy the wedding lady!
Thanks for posting about VT…We are Virginia Tech!e
btw, I like the light and fit yogurt, but if you’re used to greek yogurt, it will taste a LOT sweeter. I have a sweet tooth though…oh boy, do I. ugh.
