Golfing Thursday!

(This entry crossposted between Sweets&Sweats and Happiness Awaits)

Justin and I have started assigning things to do to nights during the week.  This is because a.) we were working for the weekend too much and b.) we got lazy at home during the week.

Monday’s-Lazy, do what ever night
Tuesday’s-Justin on travel some times, I have a standing date with Missy
Wednesday’s-Clean the house/Yard work day
Thursday’s-Golf day

I think we are both most excited about golf Thursday.  I have played golf pretty golf clubsmuch my whole life.  My dad got me a set of fisher price golf clubs when I was  about 3 and would take me out with him at the Country Club we belonged to.  I bet the other men hated him for doing this…and oddly enough, I think I am the only kid (out of all 6 of us) that my dad did this with.  What can I say, I was definitely a Daddy’s girl!  I kept playing, was on golf teams up until we moved to Connecticut and then I played A TON while I was in college because I was a lifeguard at a Country Club and got to play for free.  It was a GREAT way to get a date with guys by saying you two could go play golf for free (sorry hunny!)

I am not very good and I also don’t totally love it.  I do great playing 9 holes and that is about all I can handle.  I like just going out for a little bit and hitting balls and having fun…I don’t want to dedicate 4 hours of my day to this sport.  Since I blew out my knee, I haven’t been able to play golf.  The whole twisting and hitting a ball from my bad leg.  But I am back finally!  So tonight we are going to start by just going to the driving range.  We will work up to actually playing some holes.  Seeing I am probably AWFUL, it may take some time!

I also want to add tennis some where into there.  Tennis Sunday’s?  Maybe?  I haven’t played tennis in years!  Another sport that I enjoy but I am not all that great in.  I played since I was a kid and played through high school.  Then I got to Chatham where the other girls were like the next Williams sister and I decided to stick with things I really succeeded at: Swimming, Field Hockey and Soccer.   Tennis is another sport that I like to play just socially/for fun.  Justin and I both needed to buy rackets if we are going to start playing.  There are some courts right near our house, so why not give it a go?  Once again, I will be AWFUL for the first few weeks, I am sure!

Yesterday I hit the gym and did a nice run on the treadmill.  Ran for 32 minutes, then walked 1 minute, ran 2 minutes, walked 1 minute, ran 2, cooled down for 2 minutes.  Equaled 40 minutes.  Then stretched.

40 minutes at 9:55 per mile, so a bit slower than Monday. I think that was because I am SORE from that core workout on Tuesday.  It definitely slowed me down.  And I am lifting again today…and this is the workout that left me SO SO SO sore over the weekend.  I think I will take tomorrow off to help my body recover.

Another exciting thing—We bought front porch furniture this morning!  This is something I have been waiting to do for ages!  It is SO expensive buying furniture for our house.  It is definitely a work in progress.  We buy things slowly, one at a time.  Major aim of both of us–to never live off credit.

Putting Justin to work early this morning!

And lastly, we booked a room up in Atlantic City for the night of the Kentucky Derby.  I have gone to the Kentucky Derby a couple times:

the race!

And last year:

Well this year we aren’t going.  We thought about it (to make up for last year, which wasn’t a lot of fun but that has to do with the extra person who is in that photo.  She only wanted to go to the Derby to say she went to the Derby and ruined the entire weekend for all of us.  never again!)

trumpBut we have had too much going on lately to add a trip to Kentucky.  We didn’t know when the defense would be and you have to book rooms basically a year in advance.  Despite this, we still want to do something that day…a way to go watch horses all day long (via tv), do some gambling (love that roulette!) and just have a fun night.  So Atlantic City here we come!! Yes, I know, it isn’t Louisville and it definitely isn’t Vegas, but it is close enough for driving distances.

Our friends Chris and Kim are going with us…which always equals bad news.  Especially this time seeing no one will be driving.  I am sure there will be some entertaining photos to follow!

Have a great day.  I’m going to hit the gym over lunch and then some after work golf is in my future!  So happy it is finally sunny and WARM!

Summary

About Me: 28-year old, fairly newlywed (Spring 2007) that lives in Northern VA. Work full time, love my job, have an unfortunately long daily commute.

While an obsessive long distance runner, I am still trying to recover from 2 major knee surgeries. Atleast I am able to (semi) run again.

In the past, I definitely have not always fed my body correctly to support all the running I did. Simply put, my aim was to be the smallest weight/size possible. Now, my aim is to eat healthy, well rounded and simply to enjoy as much of life without worry about the calorie content and what the tenth of a pound the scale is showing me.
